July Business Spotlight: Bilal Afalobi, ChFC

Bilal Afolobi, Financial Consultant

Bilal Afolabi joined Northwestern Mutual in 2012 as a college intern. He went on to be the leading Undergraduate Financial Representative in the Eastern Region. During his senior year of college, he finished as one of the Top 5 undergraduate advisors in the United States. Upon graduation, he was handpicked as a Field Representative for Multicultural Markets, to add perspective and insight to the shape and direction of Northwestern Mutual’s Multicultural Strategy. He has been featured in the company internal magazine, Columns, in addition to other publications such as Vault. The National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) recognized Bilal by awarding him as the youngest ever 40 under 40 recipient in the state of Connecticut; an award given to someone who is not only a leader but committed to their community, family and team. In 2018 & 2019, he achieved Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) which demonstrates exceptional professional knowledge, strict ethical conduct and outstanding client service. This exclusive honor is achieved only by 3% of financial advisors worldwide.

Education is very important to Bilal. He is a graduate of Central Connecticut State University, with a degree in Finance and Economics. He was part of the Dean’s List while playing Division 1 Soccer. Bilal completed his certificate at Fairfield University towards his designation as a Certified Financial Planner. In addition to that he received his designation as a Chartered Financial Consultant from The American College of Financial Services. He currently holds his life, health, disability, Series 6 & 63 licenses. While he is continuing to learn, he is training and developing other financial advisers to be successful in the business as well. For his work, he was promoted to a Growth and Development Director in the Hartford, CT office.

People describe Bilal as filled with high energy and determination. His personal goal is to create 1B of wealth transfer for his clients between 2020-2029. He is heavily involved in his community with several non-profit organizations; NAACP, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated and INROADS. For his hard work, in 2015, Bilal received the One Hundred Men of Color Award throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts. His work doesn’t stop there, he has been a public speaker on the topics of financial planning and education to countless schools and nonprofit organizations.
